Burwood Playground
Ciliberto Architects collaborated with artist Sanné Mestrom to propose a public art-based playground on the site of the former brickworks in Melbourne’s eastern suburb of Burwood. The playground was proposed in accordance with the City of Whitehorse’s Urban Realm Vision document and the Landscape, Public Realm and Open Space Plan for 78 Middleborough Road, Burwood East.
The playground was sited in a crucial nexus between the planned development of multi-residential and retail zones, marking a central gathering point and essential public amenity for the surrounding neighbourhood. Aiming to foster cross-generational engagement, the proposal targeted play elements towards the 2-11 year old age group, while also providing separate zones for rest and relaxation for an older user cohort.
The proposal was developed in collaboration with key consultants to ensure compliance with Australian playground safety standards and site-specific construction & drainage details. The full list of consultants is below.
